September always felt to me more like an annual “reset” than New Year’s Day itself.
Those lovely lazy summer days are now behind us, the days are getting visibly shorter and suddenly there’s a chill in the air that wasn’t there before.
September has always been a time for new beginnings – starting a new year of school in brand new clothes and shiny shoes excitedly gathering with friends to chat about the summer vacation and checking out who’s hair is longer.
It can be a bittersweet time. We are sad for the end of summer but at the same time looking forward to new routines and a change. This can be a time of transformation for many people. In my own life, many of the major turning points happened at this time too.
September is great for reflection. To get clear on your values and find ways to live them. If your health, well-being or relationships need attention, make it a priority to find time to nurture these areas.
A great exercise to help you revisit your values is my Ideal Sunday Exercise – you can find it here, and a powerful exercise for actually living your priorities can be found here.
Whatever they are, find a way to incorporate them into your life. This could mean scheduling an exercise class, planning a weekly date night, creating time in your schedule to prepare healthy food or planning monthly events with your friends.
In the comments below, I’d love for you to share one area of your life that you are committed to dedicating more time to.
In the meantime, if you feel your well being needs some attention and you want to learn to eat and move in a way that nourishes and strengthens your body, don’t forget to sign up for my free video training series by clicking the link below.
