It might seem like a tall order.
But there are six really simple, totally doable things that will make your life significantly more awesome this year.
1. Do a yearly review.
Before you set any new goals or create new habits, really dig in and see what’s working and what’s not. Last week I wrote about the importance of a yearly review and how it can help you set your new goals and habits. Click here to read it and get your workbook.
2. Set at least three goals for the year.
One for your professional life, one family/ personal and one health goal.
Set goals that are crisp, clear, totally quantifiable.
What makes for a good goal?
Something that excites you to the tips of your toes.
Something with a tangible finish line – a book deal, a race completed, an item purchased and paid for.
Something that can be broken into small, bite-sized pieces.
I like to work backwards and set 3 set three new goals every three months. I go over this in more detail in my training series. Get the FREE training here.
3. Start doing you first.
We can’t help others until we help ourselves. Making self care a priority will not only help you reach your own goals, but it will make you a better partner, boss, employee, parent etc. A great way to start is by taking ten minutes in the morning for you and only you. Don’t check your emails an start thinking about work. This is starting your day on someone else’s routine and what they need. And you can’t do anything about work until you get there. Do you FIRST. Practice 5 minutes of meditation, sip your tea or coffee alone outside or by the window, write in a journal, do some light exercise or read a magazine or book that inspires you.
4. Create a habit of planing your day.
To make the most of your day, planning it out is über important. You can do this first thing when you get up, alone in quiet or spend 10 minutes in the evening planning your next day. Doing this is the difference between spending your time on tasks that move your forward towards your goals, and time wasted reacting to the distractions, disruptions and silly things that seem urgent but really aren’t. Personally, I resisted this for so long- but the more I plan the freer and more relaxed feel. And if I notice myself getting anxious, it’s because I’ve been slacking on this habit. Committing to this will change your life fo shizzle.
5. Commit to a movement practice.
Not because you “have to”, but because you feel awesome and energized when you do. Find an activity you genuinely enjoy and make it part of your daily routine. Take a yoga or Pilate’s class, go for a walk, swim or go dancing. Just choose something you like and be consistent.
6. Eat clean + healthy foods.
Poor food choices suck your energy and prevent you from feeling awesome. Nourish your body with healthy and delicious foods that give you energy and fuel your life. An easy way to get started is to do a kitchen clean up. Click here to get the guide
In the comments below, I’d love for you to share one step you are committed to incorporating in 2016.
Happy new year!
