Have you ever had any thoughts like these?
- When I’m thin I’ll start to date
- When I lose 10 pounds, I’ll go shopping for some fabulous new clothes
- When my butt gets more toned I’ll wear skinny jeans
- When I drop the body fat, I’ll get more auditions
- When my stomach is flat, I’ll want to have more sex
- When I have toned arms I’ll be more confident at work
When I’m thin, with a flat stomach, a firm ass, cellulite free and toned arms, then I’ll be happy.
I’ve definitely had thoughts like this in the past. Waiting for everything to be perfect before I can take action and do something I really want to do.
And it kinda sucks. Constantly thinking about how much better your life would be if your body looked a certain way is exhausting.
Exhausting and absurd.
The crazy idea that when we’re perfect, life will automatically become awesome is simply not true. There is no happy button that gets pressed as soon as your jeans get bigger or the number on the scale changes.
You gotta do stuff that makes you happy.
Now.
Not 10 pounds from now or a smaller size from now.
What you’re really desiring is the feeling you think being thin, toned (insert your word here) will bring.
Yes, eating healthy food and moving your body daily will bring you great results in all areas of your life. But it’s because showing up as the best version of yourself feels great. Not because you hit some number on the scale.
If you find yourself ever having these thoughts, I want you to try this exercise.
Write down 10 ways your life would get better if you were thinner, more toned, had a flat stomach…..
How would you spend your days? What would you wear? How would you take care of your self? What would you do on the weekends?
Now go do that now! Pick one idea from your list and do it this week.
In the comments below, I’d love to hear one thing you’re going to do that you’ve been putting off.
You nailed it. Others usually don’t even notice those flaws, so usually it’s You against Yourself in a no-win situation! For years, I was like “when I tone my legs I’ll wear a skirt or shorts” and being uncomfortable and hot in summers was the only result… almost like a punishment! 2 years back, I went for the shorts… not having toned… to the day still body conscious but a lot happier! 🙂
Thanks for sharing Sonja! Everyone has days where we’re still conscious. Love that you’re happier, and more comfortable.
So true Ana! All we ever have is NOW, and there is absolutely no point to postpone all the things we enjoy and that makes us happy. Love this post!
Thanks Ramona!
Thanks, Ramona. I could use the daily reminder to live life in the moment!
OMG yes we need to live in the PRESENT and there is nothing that makes it more clear than these true words of wisdom! I am going to buy something new this week in my current size and wear it proud! XO
Awesome news Jennifer! Wear it 😉
OMG this is soooo true! I love this blog thank you for sharing! x
Love this, I used to catch myself saying some of these things myself, but as I age, I have become more confident (or don’t care much) about what people think anymore. It’s always a good reminder to stand proud of who you are at all times and own the beauty that you are. We are our own worst critics.
